My name is Claudia Rupcich I'm a reporter and web managing editor at WSET, ABC 13 News in Lynchburg, VA. I'm also the host of a bi-weekly on-air segment called The Weekly Buzz where I preview upcoming events happening in our area.
On weekends, I report live in the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. As web editor, I'm in charge of writing and publishing breaking news and stories on our website. I edit all reporter scripts and stories that go "live" on the site. I also manage all our social media accounts and design, edit and upkeep graphics, videos and features on the site.
I graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where I majored in broadcast journalism from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I'm also fluent in French.
At UNC, I worked as an anchor, director and reporter for Carolina Week, the Emmy award-winning student-produced newscast at UNC-CH. The twice-weekly live show mainly features campus, town and state news.
I was also an on-staff multimedia journalist for Reese News Digital Newsroom, a 24/7 live news website powered by UNC students that produces content across different platforms. I was a producer and host of my own program called "Local Eats with Claudia" where I gave a behind-the-scenes look at the food culture in Chapel Hill. I also produced, filmed and edited videos and photographs to create visually stimulating stories for the site.
I've interned as an associate producer at NBC6-Miami (WTVJ) where I learned how to stack a show, pick bites and write quick and compelling VOs and VO/SOTs for the 6, 7, and 11pm evening shows. I was also an intern in ABC11-Durham (WTVD) where I went out with several reporters to cover different stories and wrote, edited and tracked packages.
I love my family, traveling, meeting new people and everything related to food. When I'm not out filming or writing a story, I love to run, cook and scuba dive.
